The NSW Government Rainwater Tank Rebate is available to households across New South Wales from 1 July 2007 as part of the NSW Government's $310 million Climate Change Fund.
The average household has the potential to replace up to 40% of the mains water they use with rainwater.
The Rainwater Tank Rebate of up to $1500 is an incentive for all New South Wales households to install a new rainwater storage system and connect this system to service a toilet and washing machine.
The Rainwater Tank Rebate is scaled according to total tank storage capacity and whether the tank is connected to a toilet or washing machine. Households not connected to mains water supply are eligible for a rebate on the purchase of a tank only.
Rainwater tanks installed to comply with the Building Sustainability Index for new homes, major renovations or pool installation are not eligible for the Rainwater Tank Rebate.

The Rainwater Tank Rebate is available through Sydney Water within its area of operation and the Department of Environment and Climate Change NSW in other areas of New South Wales.
