Launched in November 2006, the Who Cares about the environment in 2006? report provides insights into the dynamics of behaviour change as well as charts changes in people's environmental knowledge, views and opinions over the past 12 years.
Water related issues (includes water supply, conservation, management and drought) are rated as the top environmental issue by NSW residents (57%).
"People reducing their water consumption on a frequent basis
has increased to 75%, up from 65% in 2003"
said Bernard Carlon,
Director Business and Community Programs,
Department of Environment and Conservation.
The report also found that more than nine out of ten NSW residents rated the environment as an important factor in their lives, making it the third highest priority after family and friends.
And, in keeping with the national trend, climate change and energy have also significantly increased in importance. The really good news is that most people (71%) are taking action to help conserve and improve our environment.
